Last year we did our bible study on Ephesians 1, 2 and 3. Our theme for 2018 is from Amos.
"Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?" - Amos 3:3
In keeping with our theme we will start our bible study with the book "Walking As Jesus Walked" by Dann L Spader.
The introduction of the book in chapter 1 (Pg. 13) asks us the following question to consider. What if Jesus lives our life for one day and night? The condition is nothing in our life changes. We have the same boss, same life and face the same difficulties we face everyday. What if.... His priorities govern your actions. His passions drive your decisions. His love directs your behavior. How will this change our life?
These are some suggestions by the group in bible study
- Our identity changes
- our relationships change for the better
- our actions, attitudes, thoughts and behaviors change for the better
The best scenario is there should be no need for change. Consider this.. We believed in Christ and invited Him in. He is the master and we should follow Him and we should already be like Him.
How do we measure if we are following Christ as we should? One thing to keep in mind are the goals we set for ourselves. Most of us have goals we would like to achieve. We work very hard to achieve those goals. We do need to examine if the goal we have is consuming our actions instead of being an outcome of following Christ.
If we examine Jesus Christ and the life he led it is very clear He was seeking the purpose of God. He was very interested in fulfilling the purpose of God. Jesus made the right choice between His needs and God's needs. We should also be like Christ and continue to seek God's kingdom goals even when it costs us.
When we pray "May your kingdom come", what does this actually mean? It is to focus on what God wants. We should always seek what God's plan is with respect to His kingdom first and then seek what God's plan is in our lives.
